DAY 2: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PRESENT

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” — Psalm 139:7–12

DEVOTION

King David experienced incredibly high highs and painfully low lows.

 

He was a gifted musician, a courageous warrior, and a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). In one season, he stepped forward with bold faith and defeated Goliath (1 Samuel 17). In another, he ran for his life and pretended to be insane (1 Samuel 21:10–15). At his best, David pursued integrity and purity (Psalm 26:1–2). At his lowest, he committed adultery and attempted to cover his sin (2 Samuel 11).

 

After being confronted by the prophet Nathan, David prayed:

 

“Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.”
—Psalm 51:11

 

David knew his sin was serious and that he desperately needed the presence of God.

 

Yet Psalm 139 reveals a comforting truth: we cannot sin our way out of God’s presence. Sin can grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), disrupt our fellowship with God, and make us want to hide from Him—but it cannot place us beyond His reach.

 

David asks, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?” (Psalm 139:7).

 

The answer is nowhere.

 

There is no height we can reach, depth we can fall to, distance we can travel, or darkness we can enter where God is not already present (Psalm 139:8–12).

 

If you are experiencing one of your best seasons, the Holy Spirit is there. Give Him praise. If you are walking through a dark, painful, or confusing season, He is no less present there.

 

You are never alone.

 

So, acknowledge His presence, surrender to His leadership, and rest in the assurance that the Holy Spirit is with you wherever you go.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, thank You for always being present. Help me remember that I am never alone. Lead me when I am uncertain, hold me when I feel weak, and shine Your light into every dark place. Help me become more aware of Your presence and surrender more fully to Your leadership each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

NEXT STEP

Pause for a few quiet moments and acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence. Throughout today—in both the good moments and the difficult ones—remind yourself that He is near. Write down one area of your life where you especially need to remember this truth.

    I’m so excited for this 21 day journey, thank you! I struggle sometimes with my faith and trust. But I know one thing for sure I need God in my life and I can’t thank him enough for always carrying me.
