DAY 18: LORD, TODAY I’M GOING TO TAKE A STEP

by Pastor Heiden Ratner
Sep. 3rd, 2023

“By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.” – Hebrews 11:29

DEVOTION

When God opens a door, walk through it by faith. The Israelites had been on a rollercoaster journey throughout the book of Exodus. From the early days of being enslaved and crying out to the Lord (Ex. 2:23-25), to God answering their prayers by raising up Moses to lead them to freedom (Ex. 3:7-10), to Pharaoh hardening his heart—trying his best to disrupt God’s plan—it now came down to this moment (Ex. 14).

Use your imagination with me.

Moses and the Israelites stood at the shoreline of the Red Sea, staring into the large body of water that stood before them and freedom. Suddenly, Moses lifts his staff, stretches it out over the Sea, and begins parting the waters! Two massive walls of water form on the left and right sides, clearing the path. During this moment, the people had to decide to walk by faith or live in fear. Hebrews 11:29 records, “By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land…” What. A. Moment.

Today, are you facing a “Red Sea” circumstance that is either too big or too hard for your ability and strength? Is there a step of faith you need to take, trusting God to clear the path? Take a page from Moses and the Israelite’s story that it’s always better to call on His name, walk by faith, and trust His ability over yours. He meets us in it, leads us through it, and takes care of the enemy simultaneously. Today, take a step by faith!

“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” – Exodus 14:14

PRAYER

Father, today I choose to take a step. It may not be a leap, but I trust You with my next step. Increase my faith to do Your will and follow You into freedom. It may not be easy, by I trust it will be worth it. Fill me with Your Spirit, and remind today that Jesus goes before me and has already won the battle at the cross. I’m ready to walk in freedom, by faith. In Jesus’ name, amen!
