Follow the Instructions

DAY 10: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS

by Pastor Heiden Ratner
Sep. 10th, 2025

“Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land.” – Psalm 25:12–13

DEVOTION

I’ve never been the best Lego builder. Even as a dad of five boys, I struggle. My wife, on the other hand, can sit on the floor and piece together a thousand-piece set without breaking a sweat. The difference? She follows the instructions. I follow my instincts—and that never works!

The same is true when it comes to building our lives on the fear of the Lord: we must follow His instructions. That means slowing down, opening His Word, spending intentional time in prayer, and obeying His voice. When we only trust our own instincts, we end up foolish. Proverbs 28:26 warns, “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” And the starting point of wisdom has always been the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10).

Every time we listen to His voice and obey His leading, it’s like laying another brick toward the masterpiece He is building in our lives. He sees the big picture—the cover of the box—and what He is building is good (Romans 8:28). But when we try to build without His instructions, we get off track. The fear of the Lord helps us realign, take God’s Word seriously and put the right pieces in place.

The result? Clarity in our choices, a soul at rest, and a legacy that endures (Psalm 25:13b). Today, pause and ask the Lord to instruct you in the way you should go. He will do it—and you can trust His instructions are always good.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.” – Proverbs 19:20–21

PRAYER

Father, thank You for instructing me in the way I should go. I confess I am not wise enough or strong enough to do this on my own. I need Jesus and His wisdom from above. Renew my mind daily in Your Word and continue to guide me in the paths of life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

CHALLENGE

Identify one area of your life where you’ve been relying on your own instincts instead of God’s Word. Write it down, then search the Scriptures or pray until you find His instruction for it. Commit to obey what He shows you this week and share it with a friend for accountability.
