“The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.” – Proverbs 10:27

DEVOTION

Have you ever reached the end of a workday wishing you had just one more hour? Or paused at sunset, surprised at how quickly the day slipped away? Maybe you’ve even prayed, “Lord, I could really use a 25th hour today.” Other times, the opposite happens: the day drags on, leaving you weary, restless, or empty—longing for something fuller.

What if there really was a way to have longer, richer, fuller days? Scripture gives us the answer. Proverbs 10:27 says, “The fear of the LORD prolongs life…” The Hebrew word for “prolong” (leha’arich) means to extend or lengthen. In other words, when we walk in the fear of the Lord—living with deep reverence and awareness of His presence in our lives—He stretches our days. He fills them with weight, purpose, and meaning.

When God is added into the equation, everything shifts. He doesn’t just give us more time—He gives us better time. He takes ordinary days and makes them extraordinary. Charles Spurgeon once said, “One man with God is a majority though there be a thousand on the other side.” That’s the power of living with Him at the center.

Taking God seriously doesn’t shrink our days, it strengthens them. Fearing the Lord doesn’t weigh us down, it lifts us up.It doesn’t empty our lives, it enriches them. Look at Jesus: His days were full—full of people, ministry, and miracles—yet never wasted or aimless. He overflowed with the life, power, and presence of God (John 1:4, 14:6).

On the other hand, sin, selfishness, and wickedness are thieves. They cut our days short, robbing us of the fullness God designed for us. But when you invite Him into your schedule, your plans, and your season, He knows exactly what you need—and what you don’t.
So today, ask the Lord to fill your hours with His presence. Trust Him to multiply your days, not just in number, but in depth, joy, and eternal impact.

“For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.” – Proverbs 9:11–12

PRAYER

Father, thank You for being the One who prolongs my days. You are the giver of life and the source of joy. I want my days to be full—with family, friends, my church family, and the people You’ve placed in my path. Help me make each moment count. Cut out the sins that try to cut me out. Make me more aware of Your Spirit today, and help me follow Your promptings. In Jesus’ name, amen.

CHALLENGE

Choose Life: Identify one distraction, sin, or habit that shortens your days. Ask God for the strength to cut it out—and replace it with something life-giving.
