
DAY 13: IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

“If you will fear the LORD and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God, it will be well.” – 1 Samuel 12:14
DEVOTION
Samuel stands out as one of the most influential figures in the Old Testament. His life began with the prayers of his faithful mother, Hannah (1 Samuel 1). He grew up in the house of the Lord under Eli the priest, served as the last judge of Israel, became the first prophet of a new era, acted as a priest before the people, and even anointed Israel’s first kings. Samuel wore many hats, but in every role, he led with faithfulness and fear of the Lord.
As his days drew to a close, Samuel gathered the people for a farewell speech. Imagine the weight of that moment—the judge, prophet, and priest of Israel giving his final charge. He summed it up with four timeless truths:

Walk with integrity.

Remember God’s faithfulness.

Obey His voice.
-
Fear the Lord.
In 1 Samuel 12:14, Samuel promises that if the people fear the Lord, serve Him, and obey His voice, “it will be well.” That same truth still stands for us today. When we walk in reverence before the Lord, our souls are strengthened, our lives are given purpose, and our futures are secured.
Samuel could speak with such confidence because he knew God’s character: He does not change (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). He is always good (Psalm 100:5). His steadfast love endures forever (Psalm 136). Even in hardship, even when pressures mount, we can find wellness in the God who loves us and sent His Son to save us. That’s why Horatio Spafford, after facing unimaginable loss, could still write the hymn that continues to encourage generations:
“When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,

PRAYER
Father, today I come before You with reverence, gratitude, and dependence. You are God, and I am not. I need You and desire to grow deeper in my walk with You. Please bring true wellness to my soul, my life, and my family as I pursue You in every area. Thank You for Your patience and steadfast love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
CHALLENGE
Carve out 5 minutes today to do a “soul check.” Ask yourself: What’s weighing me down? Where am I lacking peace? Write it down, then bring each one to God in prayer. Surrender those burdens to Him and ask for His wellness to fill your soul.
