Consider Great Things

DAY 14: CONSIDER GREAT THINGS

by Pastor Heiden Ratner

“Only fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.” – 1 Samuel 12:24

DEVOTION

One of the best ways to strengthen your walk with God is to stop and consider the great things He has done for you. Let’s try it right now. Pause and name five great things He has done in your life.

I’ll give you two to start: First, take a deep breath in and slowly exhale. Isn’t it amazing that you can breathe? Each breath is a gift from God. In His grace and generosity, He has given us another day to live with Him—a day to fear Him, know Him, and enjoy Him. Samuel reminded Israel, and us today, to see God’s greatness even in the simple, everyday miracle of life itself.

Second, think about the gospel. God showed His greatness by sending Jesus for us. Paul said, “the Son of God… loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). The greatness of God is revealed in Christ’s humility to walk with sinners, His sacrifice on the cross, and His victory over the grave. Oh, what great things He has done!

As Samuel closed his farewell speech, he declared: “Only fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart” (1 Samuel 12:24). He didn’t want God’s people to be consumed by fear of enemies, fear of the future, or fear of failure. Instead, he pointed them to a better fear—the fear of the LORD. Oswald Chambers once wrote, “The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.”

When we fear God and serve Him with all our heart, fruit follows. He is faithful to work in the lives of all who love Him and take Him seriously (Psalm 145:18; Romans 8:28).
So today, stop and consider His great works. The word consider means to think carefully. As you recount His wonderful deeds (Psalm 9:1), your confidence in Him will grow—and so will your gratitude.

Today, consider His greatness, and walk with your eyes fixed on Him.

“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.” – Psalm 9:1

PRAYER

Father, thank You for the great things You’ve done in my life. As I pause and reflect, I’m overwhelmed by Your grace. You have been so good to me. From waking me up and giving me another day to love and grow, to sending Jesus to pay my debt on the cross and welcoming me into Your family—I am deeply grateful. Today, I choose to walk with You and experience Your greatness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

CHALLENGE

Write down five specific ways God has shown His greatness in your life—big or small. Keep the list with you today, and whenever fear, doubt, or discouragement creep in, pull it out and read it as a reminder of His faithfulness.
