Fountain of Life

DAY 7: FOUNTAIN OF LIFE

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” – Proverbs 14:27

DEVOTION

In Rome, Italy stands the iconic Trevi Fountain, famous for its stunning display of marble and rushing water. Its design features tritons, seahorses, and larger-than-life statues. Built in 1762, it remains one of the most visited sites in Europe. Back in 2012, Neena and I joined the crowds who gathered there—listening to the roar of the water, watching people toss coins, and taking in the beauty of it all. I have to say, the real thing is far more breathtaking than the copy at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Fountains are beautiful to look at, but in ancient times they also had a deeper purpose—providing clean water for drinking, washing, and even irrigation. Proverbs 14:27 points us to the greatest fountain of all: the fountain of life. This fountain flows from the fear of the Lord. When someone chooses to walk in wisdom and reverence before God, everything begins to change. That person moves from being a drain that takes life to a fountain that gives life.

Becoming a fountain doesn’t happen overnight. Just like the Trevi Fountain didn’t magically appear, the fountain of life in us takes time to be formed. The original architect, Nicola Salvi, spent 19 years working on it—and it took more than 30 years total before it was complete. In the same way, God is patiently and powerfully shaping His people as we fear Him, turn from evil, and walk by faith. Over time, your life can become a source of refreshment to others—pointing them to the living water that only Jesus gives.

Jesus said in John 4:14: “But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

PRAYER

Father, thank You for the fountain of life found in You. Thank You for the work You’re doing in me and through me for my good and Your glory. Make me a source of life in my community, city, and church family. Help me turn away from the snares of death and live fully in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

CHALLENGE

Today, find a way to refresh someone else—whether with encouragement, prayer, or generosity. Let your life be a fountain that points them to Jesus.
