DAY 14: LORD, TODAY I TRADE IN MY FEAR FOR FAITH

by Pastor Heiden Ratner

“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.” – Hebrews 11:23

DEVOTION

Moses’ parents faced a difficult decision when their baby was born. The King of Egypt, paranoid and insecure (never good leadership traits), decided to have all the newborn male babies tossed in the Nile River to be drowned (Ex. 1:22). What an evil and devasting decree. Amram and Jochebed were faced with a choice. They could either abandon him to the Nile River due to fear of Pharaoh (Ex. 1:22) or let him live due to fear of God (Ex. 1:17). By faith, they chose to let him live.

It was risky and brave to disobey the King. If caught, it was likely that all three would be killed. Yet, faith will cause you to do things outside your strength and ability. Faith is confidence and conviction working together at the same time. These parents were confident in God and held an inward conviction that He had a plan for Moses’ life.

Hebrews 11:23 describes Moses as beautiful when he was born. Although I’m sure baby Moses was a cute little Hebrew baby, the Scripture was implying more than just physical features. The NIV translates: “they saw he was no ordinary child.” They knew God had favor on his life and there was nothing Pharaoh could do to stop it. They kept him back by faith and God blessed their decision.

Is there something the Lord is calling you to trust Him with, by faith? It may be risky and require trusting Him over fearing man. Today, trade in your fear for faith and take a step toward what God is calling you to do!

“Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety.” (Proverbs 29:25 NLT)

PRAYER

“Father, today I choose to trust you with things outside of my control and ability. Bring to memory Your power and provision, when I’m faced with difficult decisions. I trust You over fearing man’s opinions or what he or she could ever do to me. Please give me good awareness and a sense of peace about the right decisions to make. I know You are with me and for me. In Jesus’ name, amen!
