DAY 16: FATHER, KEEP MY EYES ON YOUR PRIZE

by Pastor Heiden Ratner
Sep. 1st, 2023

26 “He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.” – Hebrews 11:26-27

DEVOTION

Have you considered the season you are in? What God is doing in you, around you, through you? The word “consider means to: “think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.” (Oxford Dictionary) Moses thought carefully about the season of persecution he was enduring from Pharoah and considered it greater wealth to press ahead in faith rather than compromise in fear. He was looking to the reward.

As runners run toward a prize, not looking left or right but straight ahead, Moses focused on something bigger and better than his comfort and ambition. He followed the Lord’s voice, setting a generation free. How? By faith.

Hebrews 11:27 uses an interesting phrase: “seeing him who is invisible.” Could this have been when Moses encountered God at the “burning bush” (Ex. 3)? When Moses spoke to the Lord on Mount Sinai (Ex. 19)? Or the step-by-step faith journey it took in parting the Red Sea (Ex. 14:19-31)? It was all of it. Moses was walking by faith, and the Lord miraculously used him.

Today, I encourage you to consider the season. Look for His signs. Listen for His soft, still voice. Open His Word with expectation. And by faith, look forward to the reward ahead in Christ.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 1 Corinthians 9:24

PRAYER

Lord, help me to hear Your voice in this season. As I consider Your ways and step out in faith, I trust You will lead and guide me. Strengthen me when I feel weak and help me endure the trials and challenges that come with walking by faith. I know there is a greater reward ahead in You. In Jesus’ name, amen!
