DAY 11: THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACHES

DEVOTION
Have you ever had a conversation with someone who had deep questions about faith, life, or the Bible? Maybe they wanted to know more about Jesus and were looking to you for insight.
I recently had one of those encounters—and I’m grateful the Holy Spirit showed up at just the right time.
I was preparing to lead chapel for a group of professional basketball players when one of the athletes arrived early seeking counsel. As we talked, the player began asking honest questions about life, sports, faith, and what the Bible had to say about the situation.
I began sharing what I thought might be helpful, but I quickly noticed the Holy Spirit bringing specific Scriptures to mind. One by one, we began traveling through the Bible. At one moment, we were in James talking about finding joy in trials; the next, we were in Ephesians learning about the armor of God and the reality of spiritual warfare.
There was a twofold teaching taking place: the Holy Spirit was teaching me while I was teaching the athlete. The Spirit of God was in the middle of it all.
This experience gave me a fresh picture of Jesus’ words in John 14. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would teach His disciples and remind them of everything He had said. That day, the Spirit helped me by bringing God’s Word to mind. He taught me, I listened, and He helped me teach someone else. The result was greater clarity, confidence, and peace.
The Holy Spirit is always at work—teaching, reminding, guiding, and building up God’s people. He does not speak aimlessly or contradict the Scriptures He inspired. He helps us understand God’s Word and apply it to our lives.
When we read the Bible, He teaches.
When we sit under biblical preaching, He teaches.
When we receive biblically grounded counsel, He teaches.
When we face opposition for our faith, He teaches us what to say (Luke 12:11-12).
When we need wisdom for a difficult moment, He brings truth to our remembrance (John 16:13).

The Holy Spirit is speaking—but are we listening?
Today, slow down and give Him your attention. Open God’s Word and allow Him to teach you. Open your mouth in prayer and ask Him for wisdom. Open your heart to His correction and direction. Whatever you are facing, trust that the Holy Spirit is present and ready to teach you what you need to know.
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!” —Psalm 143:10
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, thank You for being my Teacher. Help me understand God’s Word and bring His truth to my remembrance when I need it most. Give me a teachable heart that listens for Your direction, receives Your correction, and follows Your lead. Teach me what is true and help me share it faithfully with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
